Last weekend, a few galpals and I were in the usual rut of ‘what shall we do today that’s different and exciting?’ you know, summin different to the usual lunch and cocktails or heading down to Southbank to tackle tourists and food queues and overpriced wine. We fancied something quiet, something creative and something fun. Having been to dinner at the Banana Tree in West Hampstead a couple of nights before (ALL THE NOMS) and walked past this glorious place, Art4fun a creative café, we decided that was the place we should spend our sunny Saturday afternoon.
Art4fun allows you to bring your own food and drink so it was absolutely necessary for us to go to Tesco beforehand to grab ALL the Doritos and dips and diet cokes. We set our bits down and were taken though the ‘how-to’ guide by a lovely young chap who works there. We all decided to decorate some bowls because you can’t have too many bowls in your cupboard, am I right? There was pottery of all types, plates, mugs, teapots, vases, literally – whatever you could have wanted to paint, it was there. All the items are priced up individually and there is a £5.95 charge on top of that for using paint supplies. Not to bad huh?
Once you have picked your item(s) and your paints and brushes and sponges and stamps, you are good to go. Obviously I stalked Pinterest beforehand to get inspiration but there were so many colours and options to choose from. We spent the first 10 minutes of our visit just staring at our naked bowls feeling overwhelmed. Though once you start pop you just can’t stop – a bit like opening a tube of Pringles. And don’t worry if you aren’t gifted with Van Gogh’s artistic flair, this place is for everyone to enjoy and there is always staff around to give you hints and tips. I kind of wish I opted for this kind of design because they are just pretty freaking awesome.
Once you have created your masterpiece you just hand it back to the lovely staff and they will get it ready for firing in the kiln. We were told we would have our bowls back to enjoy in just 7 short days. I for one can’t wait to spice up my cupboard with a few colourful hearts. I’m such a girl.
If your birthday or hen do is coming up why not spend it here? Art4fun offer a few party packages: Wedding platters, hen do’s, kiddies parties, adult and corporate parties, workshops and even offer to bring the party to you – it would make a pretty snazzy day to remember tbh. So get your butts down there!!
Keep an eye on my Instagram to see how my bowl turned out, and if anyone fancies giving it a go then HOLLA because I will 100% come with you and try and recreate the watermelon design.
